Dog Bite Cosmetic Care Program

Dog bites may result in one or more of the following injuries:

  • Abrasions
  • Lacerations
  • Punctures
  • Tissue loss and avulsion
  • Crush injuries
  • Fractured bones
  • Sprain / strain injuries
  • Scars
  • Infections

Nationwide, the rate of dog bite injuries is on the rise. The cost of treating these injuries is rising even faster. 1 of every 6 dog bite injuries requires medical care; 1 of every 14 requires emergency care. Victims that need such treatment often pay the cost themselves.

If hospitalization was required after the attack, the victim can expect their average length of stay to be 3.6 days. If surgery was required, as it often is for attacks that involve facial and bone injuries -- a victim's first 24 hours in care can easily exceed thousands of dollars.

MercyCare helps by recruiting physicians, surgeons and medical facilities willing to write off a portion of their costs in order to "give back" to the community.  In turn, this allows us the ability to assist these patients in obtaining affordable medical treatment by providing reduced cost or cost-free medical services.
